Hello, i’m back…at least for a while.
i’ve taken a sabbatical, sort of, for multiple reasons.
i’ve been chasing the old man medical world and not really catching it.
i’ve been playing with the absurdity of bureaucratic idiocy and losing, of course.
i have written a novella, which i’m not even sure i like, but it was something i felt compelled to do and for that reason feel rewarded.
i have been putting my writings into categories and assembling them as book-like, even though i don’t feel i should attempt to publish them. Rather, i want my family, especially my two daughters, Blythe and Sarah, and grandson Sam to have access them if they wish when i kick the bucket or toss them in the round file underneath the desk if they choose.
i’ve been thinking about life and death without any need to make those thoughts public nor discuss them with anyone except for Maureen. i have been mulling over past relationships and how i could have done better but glad i did not do it differently because i’m in about as good a place as i could hope… and damn lucky to have this incredible wife, family, friends, and live where i live.
i’ve been having fun being a full-fledged, uncompromising curmudgeon and am actually proud of it, living up to Blythe’s assessment of me as “contrarian,” a description i fit and love.
Oh yes, i have continued to play golf, even though my game, er, stinks.
i am considering my next post to be my last entry in my “Willie Nod” book, which is in that category of not likely to be published. i think it says something that is me.
For now, i will exit this post with several daily items from my no longer available “Murphy’s Law Desk Calendars, thank you, Aunt Evelyn, Uncle Pipey, and cousin Nancy:
Cohn’s Second Law: In any bureaucracy, stability is achieved when you spend all of your time reporting on the nothing you are doing.
Kushner’s Law: The chances of anybody doing anything are inversely proportional to the number of people who are in a position to do it instead.
Hunt’s Law: Every great idea has a disadvantage to or exceeding the greatness of the idea.
Law of Gifts: You get the most of what you need the least.
Clarke’s Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Levi’s Eighth Law: No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation with detail.
Haldane’s LAW: The universe is not only queerer than we imagine, it’s queerer than we can imagine.
Finagle’s Sixth Rule: Do not believe in miracles – rely on them.
Haldane’s LAW: The universe is not only queerer than we imagine, it’s queerer than we can imagine.
Etorre’s Observation: The other line moves faster.
O’Brien’s Variation on Etorre’s Observation: If you change lines, the one you just left will start to move faster than the one you to which you just moved.
Good night and hello again.
