This post is copy of an email sent to me by Norm O’Neal. Norm was on my first ship, USS Hawkins (DD-873) in 1968-1969. i reconnected with him through Allen Ernst, my first class sonarman and leading petty officer in third division when i was the division officer. Sadly, Allen passed away a couple of years ago. However, it reconnected me with Norm and several other Hawkins sailors, and for that, i am grateful. Norm is a kick, and this email copy shows why:
